SMYRNA – Originally a Methodist campground, Smyrna has a beautiful new city hall and city center including fun boutique shops and great restaurants – all compliments of big tax dollars from heavy new residential development boom over the last ten years. World-class actress, Julia Roberts is from Smyrna and would hardly recognize the town from her high school days! Known as the Jonquil City, this is a community that takes pride in improvement.
The city has brand new public buildings, and a major development is planned for the old Jonquil Plaza at a cost of about $100 million. Located in the midst of a residential and commercial building boom at the intersection of I-285 and I-75 with Cumberland Mall and the Galleria complex, which includes a mall, a hotel, the Cobb Galleria Convention Center, and several office towers, the city still retains its quality as residential community.
Due to the commercial expansion there are few properties left for residential construction, so most available homes are resale, however there is some pricey new upscale residential development going on. Traditional ranch homes are very popular with first time buyers and in demand due to the convenient location of this area to I-75 and I-285, the perimeter highway.
